The problem with this fatalistic approach is that refusing to participate hasn't been effective at preventing or stopping real world problems that come back and hit you anyway.
At a bare minimum, a portion of those social-media people are voting, and it's not practical for me to create my own nation or pocket universe.

Why all of the aggression?
I use it for what I use it for and want to talk about what I see on there with other technically minded people.
Well leave it there. HN is not the internet police, and I'd guarantee you that >95% of us don't use Facebook in the first place.
