Apparently OpenAI's deal with Microsoft for access to their compute requires OpenAI to share any pre-agi R&D IP with Microsoft, so if OpenAI had bought Windsurf then Microsoft would have had the rights to take all that code and apply it upstream to VSCode, killing the fork and the company.
O that's useful additional context. Just to confirm, that killed the deal because it's bad for OpenAI? As in, OpenAI wouldn't get anything out of the acquisition because MSFT would immediately make make it moot, so OpenAI realized it wasn't worth the $3b? I mean presumably it doesnt matter to Windsurf if the OpenAI deal kills Windsurf -- its not their problem anymore! In that hypothetical world, they just got bought
