That surprise connection makes me think of how there are several common vegetables which look rather different, but are all a species of Brassica Oleracea, warped into different cultivars. (Cabbage, Broccoli, Kale, Brussel Sprouts, etc.)

That said, the trippy fractals of Romanesco look the best.
the big difference being, those cultivars are (IIUC) all human created, while this was a long-time-ago evolutionary event.
hasn't this been known for a long time?
