But marketing is also the money receives from others to put ads on your users face.
Facebook received billions from others to put ads on it's abused users so they buy crap they don't want or need.
Put simple, if a company lives by putting ads for others, it should be closed.
Nobody needs ads.
Marketing != ads. It can be, but it doesn't have to be. And not all ads are bad, only untargeted ads are "bad."
Marketing is many things, as the post mentions. At it's best, it's a simple transfer of enthusiasm.
e.g. enthusiasm is what the open source distribution model is built on.
