The plugin restores the familiar “pause minority” behaviour in RabbitMQ clusters, offering operators greater control and predictability during network partitions.
RabbitMQ is transitioning from its long-standing Mnesia storage engine to Khepri, a Raft-based system designed for stronger data safety. While this shift prevents “split-brain” scenarios, it also introduced new behaviours that some operators find less predictable. The PauseR Plugin, created by Seventh State, brings back the option to stop minority nodes serving requests – ensuring applications fail over cleanly and avoiding “false availability” during partitions.
