It changed the career pathway for junior but the biggest change i feel is about education. It completely emptied for a lot of people the principle of learning and building something.
Something drastic is going to happen in 5-10 years, either AI will be real AI, and will also replace senior engineers - or it won’t, and the pipeline of new senior engineers will dry up. It’s not going to be any one company’s fault either, why would one company decide to spend more money hiring an intern or other junior to do something that a gpt can do? But it is a tragedy of the commons, and it is tragic.
