I think one reason the right is fighting so hard on this is the cracks in their own base. The Bulwark has been writing about this, but there are a few on the right that were mad at Charlie Kirk for changing thoughts on Israel, and there's a lot of disagreement on the right about Israel.

Combine that with concerns about Trump's health and the inevitable succession looming, and I think that there's real concern of a breakout of infighting.
Let's say it's a given that Trump's shooter was a leftist, despite that Netanyahu gave a public statement the shooter wasn't Israeli, the Groypers claimed him, Nick Fuentes had to disavow, some on the right are disavowing Nick Fuentes, and there are a growing number of folks (Candace Owens, Steve Bannon, Mike Savage) are questioning the FBI's official narrative.
It almost makes me wonder if the real anger at Kimmel wasn't his influence on the left, but by pointing out the MAGA infighting he might influence the right deeper into it.
On top of outrage over the actions, I've watched the Kimmel comments, they are nothing like it is being portrayed.
Could your clarify “comments” and “commentary”?
Sorry I was editing. My previous comment didn't make sense.
