Clinical trials are what is known as "soft science" here the naive hopeful solution is that we can pile on more and more data, ignore the unfalsifiable narratives, and ex nihilo happen upon a method that will tell us how to cure a disease.
This isn't so much science as it is outsourcing the "boys club" to a machine.
