Answering texts seems to be the only specific function that I must do with my phone and no other device. Otherwise, practically every other device is better to use than a phone.
And if you put those time-wasting apps on a tablet that stays at home instead of your phone, you can't accidentally waste your time when being out and about.

This is why I use Google Voice for SMS. I have messages forwarded to through email account, and can treat them like any other message. That's the only way I can get to them in reasonable timeframe, because I often don't have my phone nearby.

I have the magnetic PopSocket which connects to my phone using the MagSafe-compatible ring built-in to the thin TPU case for my Pixel phone. With it, my phone just sits on my fingers with the PopSocket secured between two of my fingers. No hand pain.
