I wonder if we have reached the point where Agentic LLMs could produce complex enough expert systems for these games to create a dynamic experience without needing a separate cluster of high end gaming PCs just to run the model?
Blerg, reddit, it would be nice, as a courtesy to at least link to old.reddit
Anyway.
Probably because LLMs are expensive when used in a way that would be enjoeable. Like for good dynamic NPCs
> Because for most stakeholders AI isn't and has never actually been about making something "more engaging" despite whatever marketing they've served you.
Thats the cynic answer and probably true.
> AI for NPCs is difficult to get right and often involves a ton of complex systems that interact with each other. But even if you just focus on decision making: the systems we have are often good enough and don't require an AI. If anything, you don't want NPCs to be uber smart, they are often purposefully dumbed down and made worse so the game becomes enjoyable.
basically that, I remember that F.E.A.R bascially had very well scripted NPCs enemies, those guys were scary on higher difficulties. And then they added voice lines so it doesnt feel as creepy. Imagine they would move in perfect voice silence because they got isolated helmet communication like W40K space marines
