labwc is competitive with xfce and openbox. Yes it's a very limited compositor but frankly so is openbox and xfce while more fully featured was always known to be less of a resource hog vs gnome and KDE.
I feel like anyone dismissing Wayland over this (just look at that comment section on Phoronix) doesn't try to objectively assess the numbers.
