Advertising is manipulative by design. They’re trying to convince you to purchase something you wouldn’t have otherwise, and the easiest way to do that is to play into your insecurities.
Advertising has always been all lies. Advertisers ultimately corrupt ad supported media, too. I hope in the future, we as a society recognize how corrosive advertising is, and ban it.

You really could get an idea of if a product would help you or not from the ads. These days, you simply can't.
